Dion holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Chico, and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. She has completed specialized training in internal family systems (IFS) and emotionally focused therapy (EFT), approaches that inform her relational, attachment-based, and insight-oriented work with clients. Dion has worked in community mental health, as well as the nonprofit sector, where she supported individuals navigating complex emotional and relational challenges. She specializes in women’s health, with a special passion for those navigating infertility, birth trauma, perinatal mood and anxiety challenges (PMADs), pregnancy and infant loss, and the emotional weight of self-criticism and perfectionism. Dion is currently pursuing her Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). Many of her clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by life transitions, relationship challenges, people-pleasing patterns, or the quiet grief that can accompany reproductive struggles. She believes women deserve meaningful support during these experiences, especially in a culture that often encourages them to move on, stay strong, or simply try again. Dion intentionally creates a space where women can slow down, process their experiences fully, and feel deeply understood in ways they may not have previously experienced. Her therapeutic style is direct, compassionate, and collaborative. She integrates thoughtful humor with deeper emotional exploration, helping clients understand how past experiences shape current emotional patterns and relationships. Through this work, clients develop greater self-compassion, clarity, and a stronger connection to themselves. Dion’s goal is to help clients heal past wounds, understand themselves more fully, and move forward into new chapters of life feeling more grounded, whole, and connected to who they are becoming. Dion currently lives in Spain with her husband, their two dogs, and two cats. Outside of therapy, she enjoys reading romance novels, traveling, working out, and prioritizing her own personal growth through therapy.
Hello! I'm Dr. Chyneitha Cook. Thank you for visiting my profile. I have provided a variety of mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults within multiculturally-diverse communities in Southern California. My clinical focus is on assisting women with mental health issues that directly affect them in their various roles in life. Such roles might include being business owners, mothers, partners, friends, daughters, helpers, educators, and others. I assist clients with working through issues that arise for them, given the unique complexity that often surrounds the integration of such roles.
We all enter the world through the same biological process. But that's where the similarity ends. Through our own family dysfunction, we become emotionally scarred and begin to believe things about ourselves that are not true. Things like: no one loves me and no one ever will, I will never achieve my goals, I am a mistake, I am alone and always will be, I will never find happiness, etc. Then we live our lives in the dark shadow of those deep-seated beliefs. Through therapy, you will learn to recognize those ugly lies that you've been told and taught. You will learn to challenge and dismiss them. Then you will begin to believe the truth, that you are no better or worse than others. That who you become and what you achieve is truly a matter of choice. Then you will learn and practice how to make healthy choices based on your new healthy beliefs that you are capable, lovable, and will begin achieving happiness today. Emotional growth is a life-long journey. My passion is helping hurting people begin the road-trip toward their highest possible level of emotional health. I lived with emotional pain many years before seeking therapy and was certain I was alone, that no one understood my personal struggle, and no one cared. That was my emotional state when I entered therapy as a last cry for help. Through my own therapy, I began the healing process and soon found hope. The world became a brighter place, my family began to heal, my personal and professional goals seemed to take on a life of their own and positive things began to be the norm, not the exception for me. I became a therapist so I could teach others to experience the wonderful world that is waiting just beyond the dark horizon of hopelessness, sadness, and gloom. Join me on the road to emotional health and happiness. I will initially hold your hand and guide you. But you will be taught and encouraged to let go of my hand and run free, run ahead of me, and never again allow others to negatively influence your destiny.
I am a trauma-informed Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who believes in the power of transformation through increased awareness, understanding, expression, and connection. I choose to walk alongside those who may be struggling or wanting to embrace their authentic self. I often work with individuals who are working through trauma, anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, grief, anger, and identity development. Talk therapy allows for the exploration and processing of your experiences and interpretations of these experiences. Supplements of talk therapy may include dream work, the use of art, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), active imagination, and internal family systems (parts work) to aid in the process of going deeper and building a foundation of coping tools sometimes needed. I offer a free 15-minute consultation before booking. This offers a chance to ask questions before scheduling a session and helps me get an idea of what you are looking for.
I have helped clients process complex sexual trauma and emotional abuse, neglect and abandonment. I also work with depression, anxiety, loss and attachment issues, as well as Chronic and Terminal illnesses such as Epilepsy, Breast cancer.

If you are having difficulty communicating assertively with your partner, your children are not listening to you, or you suffer from anxiety counseling can help. Being trained in Gottman Method Level I & II would benefit couples in learning to communicate more effectively, manage conflict better, and have an overall understanding of each other. Sometimes it is best to seek professional support whom can guide you to build a better relationship with your partner and children, and to improve your mood. With evidence based theories that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focus that are known to be effective in treatment are also modalities applied in the counseling process. I also offer integrating Christian Faith during the counseling sessions. Contact me for a free phone consultation at (424) 248-5486 or email me at counseling@brendagiron.com
Are you exhausted from holding it all together at work, in your family, or in your partnership only to feel frustrated that the same patterns keep resurfacing? You’re capable, thoughtful, and driven yet something isn’t shifting. You're finding that talking about it and reading about it has not brought the results you hoped for. Evidence-based, more experiential therapy can help you understand what’s underneath those patterns so real change becomes possible. As you gain clarity about the parts of you that work so hard to protect, please, or perform, you’ll feel less internally conflicted and more grounded in your relationships. I offer a steady, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down and speak honestly about what you’re carrying. Rather than adding more tools or techniques, we focus on what’s happening inside. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) we’ll gently explore the different parts of you that have been trying to help, even the self-critical ones. You have so many parts inside that are longing to be known. Together, we can uncover the self-compassion and confidence that’s already within you, and ease the internal conflicts that haven't found relief with traditional talk therapy. If you’re ready for meaningful, lasting change, I invite you to reach out.
If there is one thing I hope you take away from an encounter with me, it is this: you are precious and valuable. That belief is at the heart of what I call Treasure Therapy. I believe every person has inherent dignity and worth, even when life, relationships, failure, shame, conflict, or loss have made it difficult to feel that way. My passion is engaging people in deeper therapeutic encounters that lead toward hope, meaning, connection, growth, and healing. I am especially passionate about helping people understand the deeper patterns shaping their lives and relationships. Rather than focusing only on symptoms or surface-level solutions, I work from a whole-person perspective that considers your emotions, relationships, history, body, beliefs, values, sexuality, spirituality, and the systems you are part of. Couples therapy is one of my primary specialties, and it has been for more than 15 years. With a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy, I am trained to understand not only each partner individually, but also the relational system they create together: the patterns of attachment, conflict, intimacy, communication, and protection that can keep even loving couples stuck. My role is not to decide who is right or wrong. It is to understand the relationship itself, help each partner feel heard, identify the cycle underneath the conflict, and help you create a healthier, more connected way of relating. I work with couples dealing with recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, communication difficulties, trust injuries, sexual and intimacy concerns, differences in desire, parenting stress, life transitions, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) and neurodivergence within relationships, and questions about whether or how the relationship can move forward. I also enjoy working with couples who are not in crisis, but want greater closeness, emotional safety, intimacy, and depth. I also work with individuals around relationships, ADHD and neurodivergence, self-worth, anxiety, depression, sexuality, intimacy, identity, spiritual questions, life transitions, and the challenge of integrating the different parts of ourselves into a more satisfying life. I have been counseling individuals, couples, families, and groups since 2007. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Maryland, Washington, DC, and California, and I am approved by Maryland to provide clinical supervision to therapists in training. My approach is evidence-based, but I also believe therapy should feel human. You should not feel like a diagnosis, a checklist, or a problem to be fixed. Good therapy should involve curiosity, honesty, compassion, challenge, and real engagement. I want to understand not only what is happening in your life, but also what it means to you, and what kind of life and relationships you want to create. Because I am also a former pastor, I can integrate faith and spirituality into therapy for clients who want that. For some people, faith is a central source of meaning, hope, identity, and strength. For others, religion may be complicated, painful, or not important at all. You do not need to share my beliefs, or hold any religious beliefs, to feel welcome here. I work with people of many faiths, backgrounds, identities, cultures, relationship experiences, and life choices. My goal is not to impose my worldview on you, but to understand yours and help you live more fully in alignment with what matters to you. Outside the therapy room, I have been married for nearly two decades, and I am the father of two boys. I understand personally that relationships do not happen in a laboratory. Marriage, parenting, work, stress, health, sex, money, faith, family history, and ordinary exhaustion all interact in real life. If you are looking for a therapist who will go deeper than surface-level advice, who understands the complexity of relationships, and who will engage you with warmth, honesty, and respect, I would be glad to work with you. Whether you are trying to repair a relationship, deepen one that is already good, rediscover intimacy, understand yourself better, heal from something painful, or simply become more fully who you are, I believe there are treasures within you worth discovering.
Everyone can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives. Whether your goals involve navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, life transitions, or confronting your past, you've taken a positive and courageous step toward finding support. I bring an easy-going, nonjudgmental, and caring approach to sessions. Clients tend to see me as genuine and easy to talk to, creating a space where they feel comfortable opening up. I am deeply passionate about my work and excited to help clients learn more about themselves and ultimately reach their personal goals. I specialize in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, and challenging life transitions. I utilize powerful modalities like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to help you process painful memories, alongside cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to build essential coping skills and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships. You do not have to navigate life's highs and lows alone. If you are ready to find clarity, growth, and a new perspective, I invite you to reach out to schedule a consultation.
